Climate Change

Increasing plastic production, low levels of recycling and
poor waste management pollution are a major threat to
ocean health and sea life. Plastic pollution is an issue because
‘they don’t go away’ .

Climate change is impacting our lives and health in different ways. Daily, the essential ingredients of good health such as clean air, safe drinking water and shelter and nutritious food supply are threatened. Green house gas emission from extraction and burning of fossil fuels are major contributors to both climate change and air pollution. Changes in policies and lifestyle choices – food and energy use choices can drastically improve air pollution.

We can all do something to help with the plastic problem – take action today to reduce their plastic use and create a safer environment.

Recycling

Wage war against plastic waste

Every minute, the equivalent of one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our ocean. We depend heavily on it and it has become increasingly difficult to live without it. However, there is increasing awareness of the disadvantages of plastic, it is polluting local environments and drifting into the ocean.

How do we fight this war?

Practical approaches, like improving recycling procedures or producing alternative packaging materials, can reduce the plastic waste problem drastically.

The foundation teamed up with the Mental and Development Initiative for Children (MEDIC) for 7-day Lagos Coastal Plastic Search and Marine Debris cleaning exercise. The daily clean up exercise was carried out along the coastlines of the Five Cowries Creek, Bonny Camp and Oriental Hotel. This partnership was in an effort to create awareness about the urgency to tackle the growing menace of plastic and environmental pollution, particularly in the marine ecosystem and the implication it has on both human and sea life.

Beach Clean Up

We organise a periodic beach clean for recycling because beaches are beautiful natural treasure that we should keep clean, so we can explore and enjoy together.

Plastics, balloons, food and general waste are very commonly found on our coastlines. Taking time to clean up beach litter can safe sea-life, improve local economy, keep toxic chemicals out of water and create a healthier, safe environment.

Plant a Tree

We only have one home, let’s plant our future today

Benefits of planting a tree :

  • More oxygen in our air
  • Reduced greenhouse gases
  • Healthier soil and natural humidity control

Green Park

Parks are emerging as important public health solutions in urban
communities.

Our green park initiative stems up from the need to provide a nearby natural
space that supports our environment, health and wellness.

According the World Health Organisation (WHO) green spaces are “an essential resource to provide healthy and sustainable living environments” and it estimates that ideally, green spaces should exist within 5-minutes walk from our homes.

Benefits of green parks in our communities:

Mental health benefits

Access to nature is essential for humans and has an impact on our mental health. It helps reduce stress, improves concentration and increases happiness. It is particularly beneficial for children and senior citizens.

Physical health benefits

Parks and gardens are an oasis in the middle of cities, extremely valuable resources for improving our health and physical condition. Research have linked long-term contact with nature to longer lives. Also, it promotes healthy lifestyles and sport activities

Social benefits

It helps to improve social relationships and strengthen sense of community, particularly in overcrowded areas
